The interior crystal layers are known as phantoms.  Black Phantom Quartz are quite rare and highly prized among collectors because of their beauty and relative scarcity. They are only found in Minas Gerais, an inland state in southern Brazil known for its wealth of minerals and mining activities.  Black Phantom Quartz are very powerful.
